Thoughts and Sifting Through

Do you ever wake up with a thought or a song running through your head? I do, quite often. It’s nice when those thoughts are positive, not so nice when they aren’t. What are they related to? Why do we have them? I don’t know the answers, but I wish I did.

Spring inspires with new energy, a new enthusiasm, so, armed with loppers or whatever that big, scissors-like tool is, and garden gloves, I descended on the front garden. Azaleas are blooming. So pretty! But, those hardy little sprouts and weeds between the flowers surely don’t need to be there. Wild honeysuckle has taken roots. Other, unknown things, interlopers, were soon cut down, defeated.

Then, to the back yard to pick up sticks and small twigs from the maple and willow oak. And, to be sure the yard was clean of the not-so-nice deposits from Nemo. Sad to see my fern has died. I wonder why.

I love trees and flowers and most of nature’s habits, but spring and summer seem to be a continual battle with weeds, twigs, maple seeds, oak tassels, and mosquitoes. However, without these things, would I appreciate the lovely part of the season? As the poet said, Life is dappled shade and sunshine.

That first thought I woke up with? It’s pretty grim, so don’t let it depress you: Life is hard and full of pitfalls. But, if I can add a P. S. It’s entirely worth it.

Songs often run through all day long and I never know what triggered them!
