This Was ’93

This Was ’93

Yesterday, in going through old papers and books, I found this lovely little calendar. Woman’s Day magazine used to include these pull-out calendars in their January (or was it past December?) editions. I bought the magazine mostly to get the calendar. Guess what’s especially neat? In 1993, the days of the week coincided with the days of 2021. So, July 15 was on Thursday twenty-eight years ago too.

The calendars had lovely paintings and a Bible verse for each month. I’m sure the Bible verse wouldn’t be politically correct now, but how nice if it were.

Then, I started thinking about 1993. I remember it well. Do you? George H. W. Bush was the out-going President and Bill Clinton was coming into the oval office. Gas at the pump was $1.11. Wow!

Microsoft released Windows NT 3.1. The World Health Organization estimated that 14 million people worldwide would be infected with AIDS.

Janet Jackson was popular as was Garth Brooks and Rod Stewart sang, Have I Told You Lately?

The best I can remember, people had distinct preferences in politics and expressed ideas freely without fear of censorship. There was a lot less hatred.

It’s amazing what memories a simple little calendar insert can bring back.

I save all of my calendars as a form of diary. What happened in my life that year. And these past few years I received calendars with photos on of the family, so I save those also for that reason.

    Nice post.
