The God of Starting Over AGain

The God of Starting Over AGain

When I was a little girl, lo! and these many years ago, I wrote stories. I started young. My stories probably resembled soap operas. They would go on and on, the plot would become so involved, that I had no idea how I was going to get the characters out of their muddle, so, I did the only logical thing. I started over. I loved those new beginnings. Not many of my stories had endings in those days. Now, I do a bit better on thinking things through when I write.

Sometimes, it’s that way in real life. We travel this path or that one, not thinking of how things will wind up, or maybe thinking they will have an entirely different ending than is logical, and we find ourselves in such a muddle that there’s no earthly way of getting out of it. The amazing and wonderful thing is, we really can start over if we realize that we can’t fix things and come in repentance to God. He is a God of starting over.

When I listen to the news and hear the awful things that are going on, how love for our fellow-man has flown out the window and lies and hatred rule many of the stories, I admit that it’s discouraging. I think, in trying to fix things, we’ve gotten them into a tighter and tighter coil, the answers escape us, and we are rather like a snowball rolling downhill, gathering sticks and dirt and getting bigger and bigger with no way of stopping or coming to a satisfactory conclusion. Our only hope is in turning to God, admitting our failures, and asking Him to please forgive us and start us over again on the right path, His path, not our own. The wonderful thing is that He is a God of new beginnings.
