The Calm After the Storm

The Calm After the Storm

Yesterday was the calm after an exceedingly stormy night. In checking with my friends in Oklahoma, I found that a tornado had roared through mighty close to my childhood home and not far from my mother’s home at Etta. It had torn up a boat marina on Tenkiller Lake and destroyed the homes of several people, to say nothing of barns and out buildings. Here in Arkansas, it lifted the roof off the barn of a dear friend. The good thing was, as far as I know, no one was injured, but it’ll take a long time to regain what was lost Friday night.

Saturday was the kind of day to relax and enjoy a fire in the fireplace, Christmas music on the radio, and snowy scenes on TV. And cook and paint. So, I did. An apple pie seemed to be in order. It is all put together and in the refrig, waiting to be popped into the oven today. And, having a yen for chocolate, I stirred up a batch of fudge. In between times, the paints and brushes came out. Painting tiny ornament gourds is lots of fun. And, they’ll stay around for years. Maybe they’ll get passed down to future generations. Who knows?

It was a good way to begin December. November went out with a temper tantrum, crashing and banging and throwing things around. But, December came in peacefully. Hopefully, it’ll be that way all month.
