The Beauty that Surrounds Us

The Beauty that Surrounds Us

Beauty surrounds us. Sometimes, we have to look for it; sometimes, it’s so obvious, we can’t miss it. But, many times we get so accustomed to seeing it, we pass right by without a thought. And that’s a shame.

I’ve always found beautiful things in nature to be restful. And, let me tell you, when a situation is overwhelming, it’s a nice break to completely clear the mind for a bit and think about something that’s delightful and good and is ours just for the enjoying–like scenery.

If I might confess to you, I’m putting the finishing touches on Moonstruck and Murderous. , I have a friend who can’t read my cozy mysteries, these are cozy, mind you. Because of the scary situations that Ned or Darcy seem to always get themselves into, she can’t sleep. I laugh at her and think that’s a funny attitude. But, yesterday, I came to understand it. Ned was in such a pickle, escape seemed impossible. She was scared. I was scared. I was so involved in this fictitious plot that I had to stop, take a break from writing, go get a glass of water, and think about something entirely different–like the soothing effect of natural things.

These pictures show a bit of nature I saw this summer in Arkansas and Oklahoma. They’re nice to return to in thought. Whether it’s the grandeur of tree-covered hills or the exquisite intricacy in moss and lichen, nature is all around us and is ours for the enjoying. It’s especially nice when you’re all wound up because of a chilling cozy mystery.
