That Special Nook

That Special Nook

My son and I got the sad news yesterday that one of his best friends had died when his horse threw him. Suddenly, with no warning whatsoever, Lance was no longer there, where he had always been for many years, in that special nook in our hearts.

Of course, with a death, memories come flooding in: Lance, as a little boy in grade school, in church as he grew up, his wedding, Matt’s wedding, the births of his children, and I thought about time and how it flies with no way of slowing it down or stopping it for a while and no way of bringing it back, once it is gone.

It seems to me that time is a gift, the most precious gift God has given us. And, into those limited numbers of days and years, He places people who share life with us. Do we have a certain amount of time allotted to us? If so, we have no way of knowing when it’ll be called back to the One who gave it. So, what do we do to make sense of things?

Cherish is a good word. Words can be empty things, but we should cherish our time. and use it to make something lovely and worthwhile, like friendships.

Life is so short, even if it lasts for ninety or more years, when viewed in the light of eternity, it’s short. The Bible says life is fleeting and it sure is. But the memories of friends and times shared, well, they last forever.
