Signs of Danger

Signs of Danger

Today’s post is my opinion on what I see happening. My opinion is the only one I have. If you think it may offend you, please read no further.

I am more than a little concerned about all the dissent around us. I’m sure you are too. I don’t watch national news and very little local. I do, however, notice internet postings. This may be good or it may not; it is certainly not conducive to peaceful thoughts.

None of us remembers the American Civil War. Even our grandparents were born afterward. However, it happened about 160 years ago. It was a time when this great nation was divided–bitterly divided. Sadly, the bitter feelings have filtered down even to today. That’s a long time!

I’m reminded of this Scripture: Mark 3:24-25, If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand. We are the United States of America, but, at the moment, we don’t seem to be all that united. Why is that?

If an enemy comes at us from outside, and we present a united front, we are hard to conquer. If we are already scattered and frightened, fragmented, an outside enemy has easy pickings. Can you imagine that America’s foreign enemies are delighted with what’s going on in this country? I can.

There’s another verse, Proverbs 16:28, A perverse man spreads dissension, and a gossip divides close friends.

Our society today reminds me of children on a playground. One child whispers something to another and pretty soon, there’s a ring of children around a poor, unfortunate one who is being whispered about, pointing accusing fingers. Funny thing is, the culprit is usually the one who started the whispering. It’s an alarming fact that many adults are quick to point fingers and spread rumors. Sad, isn’t it?

Humans could learn from animals. When buffalo on the plains were faced with danger, they ran if they could. If escape wasn’t possible, they formed a ring–the females around the babies, the males around the females, they didn’t cringe with their heads inside the circle. Their heads were out, facing the wolves. That united front of determined buffalo was hard to beat.

That’s my viewpoint, the things that are on my mind on this beautiful June day. You have your own opinions, which is fine. But, the danger from within is real.
