Not an Oak, But a Golf

Can you guess what this is?

My brother Tracy Day sent me this interesting photo a few years ago.  At a glance it looks as if the tree may be the first of its kind to sprout a golf ball. Can you imagine the run on nurseries, with golfers wanting to plant a whole orchard of this amazing tree? Actually, some golfer took a swing at the ball and sent it flying into the arms of a tree. It has been there so long that the tree is growing around it. Is the tree squeezing the ball into a different shape or does it just look that way?

We have probably all been in situations where we felt much like that golf ball, situations that didn’t feel right, where we were out of our natural environment. It’s an uncomfortable place to be.

If you’ll look closely, you will see the name of the ball’s maker stamped on it. So we know who made it and what it is but not how it got there nor how long it has been there. It’s one of those mysteries, and around such are woven some of the writer’s most intriguing plots!
