Livening Up Lunch

Livening Up Lunch

When Nancy, Jane, and I got together for lunch yesterday, it had to be a lively time. And, it was. We decided to meet at one of our favorite restaurants. The food was good, the service was lovely, and the conversation was sprightly. It was helped along by a bandaid on my thumb and a slippery container of cream. Really.

I hadn’t meant for the small, plastic cup to slip from my hands and the creamer to go squirting across the table at my seat mates, but, it did. Jane and I were mopping it up with napkins when our alert waitress came along and took care of it. So, I tried again. This time, the creamer didn’t squirt across the booth; it made an interesting little puddle on the table. The long-suffering waitress was johnny-on-the-spot with her dish cloth. Next, to prevent further incidents, she brought more creamer, opened it, and poured it into my coffee cup herself. Attentive–that’s what she was.

We talked about everything imaginable, including artists and authors. I showed them a rough sketch idea for the cover of Moonstruck. We ate and sipped, and it was a delightful way to have a critique. I wonder if we’ll do it like this next time? But, with Thanksgiving coming on, and the busy-ness of the season, it might be a while.

Speaking of the season, the wind is a reminder that the year is drawing to a close. It is crisp this morning. The leaves of my maple have finally succumbed to the wind and most of them are lying on the ground. Tomorrow, we are forecast to have chilly rain. Wonderful weather for cozy mysteries or just about anything else, including brightening the day by having lunch with friends.
