Grandma Blessings Through the Years

Grandma Blessings Through the Years

A lot of blessings come along with being a grandma. The biggest blessing is grandchildren–those little guys and gals who remind us of our own children when they were that age. Grandmas have time to listen to what happened at school and they don’t scold when an exuberant grandchild runs through the house. Grandmas admire works of art and put them on refrigerators or walls where they stay for years. Grandmas realize that those childhood days of wonder don’t last nearly long enough. Yes, grandchildren are the biggest and most joyful blessing of being a grandma.

I read in the Bible many blessings. My favorite one is found in Number 6:24-26: “The Lord bless thee and keep thee; The Lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

A few years ago, I sat down and thought about Grandma Blessings. I came up with a few then and I’ve added some this morning:

The Lord bless thy bones that they creak not neither pop loudly when thou sittest down and when thou risest up.

The Lord bless thine eyesight so that it can see the intricate workings of thy grandchildren’s technology.

The Lord bless thy mind so that it understandeth the intricate workings of thy grandchildren’s technology.

The Lord bless thine ears so they can hear the sweet voices of thy grandchildren when they say they love thee.

The Lord bless thy knees so that when thou jumpest over small objects in a wild dash to touch base in a game of Hide and Seek, thy joints don’t land thee flat on thy backside.

The Lord bless thy days filled with the happy sounds of grandchildren’s laughter and thy nights when they are tucked up safely in their beds.

The Lord bless thy courage when seeing grandchildren grow up and leave fun games with Grandma behind.

The Lord bless thy wisdom in knowing when to speak and when to keep still.

The Lord bless thy memory in not repeating too many times, “You are just like your dad.”

I’m sure you can make your own list of Grandma or Mom blessings. There is an old hymn, Showers of Blessings.  Some of the words are, “Precious, reviving again.” That’s grandchildren: precious and reviving with youth and enthusiasm. They inspire a whole lot of gratitude for the blessing of being a grandma.
