Filling in the Blanks with Song

Filling in the Blanks with Song

The next time you face a lull in conversation, fill in the blank with a song. You’ll be surprised at what flavor it lends to any subject. Yesterday’s critique had music, art, and literature. Plus samples of homemade butterscotch pie, chocolate chip cookies, and coffee. Each Cozy Critter received a pen with the logo, Blanche Day Manos, Cozy Mysteries with an Extra Shiver. They write wonderfully well!

If you haven’t seen Carolyn Bayley’s oil paintings, you have missed seeing some great art! Carolyn’s weekend at War Eagle was a huge success and I can certainly understand why. The oil painting at the top of this post is one example. Another is this beautiful rendition of The Grass Is Greener.

The Grass Is Greener by Carolyn Bayley

To top it off, Carolyn writes and is busy with her life on the farm and farm animals. As well as her paintings that she sold over the weekend, she sold her homemade jelly, homemade quilts, and her children’s books. Congratulations, Carolyn!

Jane is another talented woman. She, too, paints and draws. And, she writes. Yesterday, she read a story she had written for a young friend of hers. Shaking a Hairy Monster is an adventure told by a dog. The little dog sees a hairy monster following her and is glad to get back home safe and sound. It turns out to be only her tail that has been behind her all along and what a relief that was!

Both Carolyn and Jane were overjoyed to learn that Moonstruck and Murderous is finished! I read the last several chapters to them, pausing now and then to see if they were all right or if they needed to take a few deep breaths to ready themselves for the finish line. Their confidence in my writing is encouraging.

As I was finding Moonstruck on my iPad, I ran into a few snags that resulted in their expectant waiting for the story. To fill in the gaps, we sang a song, one that we all knew. Of course, music lends flavor to any critique! Should we take up singing as our next venture into the world of creativity?
