Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned in a Cozy Mystery

Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned in a Cozy Mystery

Cozy mysteries are fun to read and fun to write. If they were not, who would read or write them? As well as being fun, they are instructive. They’ve taught me several life lessons.

  1. Storms come in every life.
  2. There is no problem than cannot be solved.
  3. Perseverance  wins the day.
  4. Home’s hearth fires burn brightest.
  5. It’s good to have a trusted friend when times get rough.
  6. Problem solving is easier with a cup of hot, strong coffee.

In my two series, the Darcy and Flora mother/daughter mysteries, and the Ned McNeil moonlight  cozies, these six themes run throughout. The women in these books have become good friends for me, as I write and, I hope, good friends for you as you read.

When life runs amok and real life events are too much to handle, a cozy mystery is a promise that “this too shall pass.” As a plucky heroine said in a memorable book, written a few decades back, Tomorrow is another day. A cozy mystery is a warm reminder.
