While Driving Down the Street One Day

While Driving Down the Street One Day

While driving down the street one day in the merry month of May…I was taken by surprise by a sight that met my eyes. For a moment, it took my breath away!

There I was, just driving down the busy street, watching traffic, and I met a man on a motorcycle. Nothing wrong with that except that in front of him he held a large, upright tree branch or perhaps it was a small tree? Either he was transporting it to be planted in his yard or he imagined himself a woodland creature. Funny thing was, I saw him later in the day, same motorcycle, same tree branch. Maybe he had grown fond of it.

Another strange thing–on a sign advertising openings at a chicken processing planting: evisceration opportunities. After a second’s thought, I was sure there was nothing sinister about it but why even advertise in that way? Maybe someone had a grisly sense of humor?

Yesterday, I put the last of my flowers in the ground (I think). Bee Balm, Marigolds, Thyme, Petunias all raise their little heads in happy profusion under the oak in the front yard. Now I’ll need to find rocks to put around each one or the marauding squirrels who call the oaks as well as the maples home will decide to dig them up.

The morning is cool and still. School is out. Teachers and children are looking forward to a well-deserved vacation, and we look forward to June. The Farmer’s Almanac has some pretty interesting weather lore about June. For example, A good rain in June sets all in tune.

So, I wonder what sights await while driving down the street in June? And will I be able to include them in the next Ned McNeil or Darcy and Flora cozy mystery?
