Dark and Drippy

Dark and Drippy

This is another dark, drippy day. The temperature is falling and the sky is metallic gray. It’s a “lights on in every room with fireplace going” kind of day.

How many of you make New Year’s resolutions? I actually don’t. Oh, I may jot down a few goals in my journal and quite a few sincere hopes, but I’ve found that most resolutions are quickly broken, which leaves a feeling of defeat, which isn’t a good thing. I just try and pray and try again.

Will we have snow? Will we have freezing rain? The forecasters do their best, but weather seems to have a mind of its own. However, there’s one thing I’m sure we will have–cloudy, wet weather with a falling temperature.

On a day like today, the cardinals at my bird feeders are bright spots. It’s pretty nice that they travel in pairs, Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal. I saw six males a few days ago, at the feeders. And, sure enough, there were six little demure females too. Birds, like people, have their own way of doing things. Some birds travel in flocks, some in pairs, and some are loners.

Nevertheless, feeding the birds is a great wintertime activity and is a great mood booster on a cold, rainy day.
