Celebrating Palm Sunday

This is a beautiful Palm Sunday in NW Arkansas. This is the day Christians around the world celebrate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Jesus entered the city riding on a young donkey that had never been ridden before, signifying that He came in peace.  The people received him with Hallelujahs and shouts of welcome. They waved palm branches and spread them in the road. Palm branches were a symbol of victory and were thrown before the feet of conquering heroes.

“And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, ‘Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.'”

Although it was a time of rejoicing for the people of Jerusalem, the religious leaders were not pleased and were determined that Jesus should die. He was a threat to their authority.

Ultimately Jesus would be victorious. Although He would be crucified, God would raise Him from the grave. The palm branches were a fitting symbol for  the One who conquered sin and death to bring hope and eternal life to mankind.
