An Outstretched Hand

An Outstretched Hand

Sometimes the world seems cold and harsh, but a caring person can put a warm glow on even the worst  situation. Because we are human, we don’t always make the wisest choices in life and those foolish choices can land us in a bad situation. From time to time, we are all in need of a friendly face and an outstretched hand.

When I was in Ireland, we stopped at a seaside place and I said I was determined to put my finger in the Irish Sea. Down some steep stone steps went those of us who wanted to get closer to the water. I edged even closer (contrary to popular opinion, age doesn’t always make a person wiser.) Anyway, going nearer than the others to the sea, I bent down and put my hand in those restless, foaming, cold green waters. 077Then,  a huge wave came rolling in, straight toward me. I turned around, found a warm, helping hand stretched out to me, grabbed it, and scrambled up the steps before I was drenched.

In large situations or small, one caring person can make a great deal of difference. Perhaps someone is in need of a smile, a kind word, or simply a listening ear today. You can be that friendly face and  outstretched hand. You can make a difference.
