An Eye-Opening Episode

An Eye-Opening Episode

Let me tell you about my latest adventure–cataract surgery. It took place Monday, with Dawn going with me, waiting patiently, and driving me home. She took me back for the one-day checkup also, since I couldn’t drive as yet. Since then, my family has been helping in every way they can think of. What would I do without my family? I don’t ever want to know.

For such a short (it took about ten minutes) procedure, it has produced gigantic results. For the first time in–how many years–I can see through my right eye without glasses. I can hardly wait to get the left eye done. The only draw back is, now I can see all my wrinkles and my time-worn face. With glasses on, they covered part of those imperfections. No more. Bad thing is, I can’t wear camouflage, known as makeup, for a few days.

Getting back to the procedure–as I lay comfortably against a headrest, round after round of eye drops were squirted into my eye. Then, I waited. More eye drops, and more waiting. At last, I was wheeled into the operating room, thinking that the drip in my arm would render me briefly unconscious. It didn’t. It relaxed me, but I knew everything that was going on. Only thing is, it didn’t bother me a bit. I saw some colored lights moving, I heard the medical team talking to me. And then, they wheeled me back out. Dawn helped me into the car and whisk! We were out of there.

Cataract surgery may not be for everyone. That’s for you and your ophthalmologist to decide. But, as for me, it was eye-opening and a wonderful experience. Now, with second sight, just think what scary mysteries I’ll be able to see how to write.
