An Attitude of Gratitude

An Attitude of Gratitude

That special holiday arrives in three days! Are you ready? Have you heard a rumor that a jolly turkey slides down chimneys bringing mince and pumpkin pies and Thanksgiving-themed books for all good and dedicated readers?

How about starting the tradition of giving the children in your life a book for Thanksgiving? Food for the stomach and food for the mind and spirit. One of my all-time favorite Thanksgiving books is A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting and Diane de Groat. That book has delighted children for a couple of generations (it delighted this adult too.)

For us older kids and cozy mystery fans, there are plenty of Thanksgiving mysteries. You might like to check out The Trouble with Turkeys by Kathi Daley.

Sometimes my son and I talk about Thanksgivings Past when all of Mom and Dad’s children and grandchildren would gather at their house in Tahlequah. It was a small house and Mom’s kitchen wasn’t large, but somehow, everybody fit inside. Nobody had time to feel cramped because everybody was talking and eating and enjoying being together. I am grateful for those warm memories.

Thankfulness is a good attitude to have all year. Being grateful instead of critical has its own rewards. As Thanksgiving nears, I’m reminded more and more of the bountiful blessings showered on me all year. It’s good to have a special day just as a reminder.
