A Rumble Through the Heavens

A Rumble Through the Heavens

Lightning shivers across the window followed by a rumble of thunder. What is there about rain that is at once soothing, invigorating, leaving one with a feeling of being closed away from the world, tucked in where everything is safe and warm? Is it the realization that nature is in charge, and whether the rain is a bain or a blessing, nothing we do is going to stop it, so we’d might as well enjoy it?

Nemo doesn’t seem to feel the same as I do about rain. It took much persuasion to get him outdoors this morning. He wouldn’t mind the rain so bad if it weren’t for that unknown and noisy giant that stalks the clouds, muttering and growling. I think he enjoys being inside, but comfort is something he’s always had. Well, not always, maybe, because he was a little throw-away puppy at one time. But, I’m glad that at least there’s one of God’s creatures who, although his first owners didn’t want him, found a home where he’s safe.

My back yard resembles a swamp or a pond. My front yard slopes gently to the street, so rain doesn’t stand much on it, but the back yard–hopefully, I can coax some grass to grow there this spring.

More thunder echoes through the morning, loud, then soft, as it considers how long it should stay. With DST beginning tomorrow, it’s only fitting that CST should take its leave with a lot of fanfare–the first thunderstorm of the season!
