A Day in the Life of

Somehow, we missed the rain that parts of Oklahoma got yesterday. In places, six to eight inches fell, but here? We got a lot of boastful thunder, booming around the heavens and scaring small dogs, but it was all a lot of noise. No rain.

All in all, it was a beautiful day, made even more interesting with a visit from my friend and neighbor Peg. We kept our social distance and sat on my back deck where the crepe myrtle and redbud trees cast a welcome shade. She had brought Peppermint oil to repel mosquitoes and it worked–the only thing I’ve found so far that works.

We talked about Murder By Moonlight. She is one of my first readers and she had some helpful pointers. She is a discerning reader.

That was a good start to the day. Nemo and I enjoyed our trip to the mailbox and, on the way back, I saw a most interesting doorway. True, it wasn’t exactly to my liking and not many creatures could fit inside, but to an ant, I imagine it was just right. It lay sheltered by a ridge of dirt, tucked into the middle of a mossy lawn.

Summer is winding down and the trees are beginning to drop little hints of fall. I found a small oak twig with attached acorns. The squirrels will have a bountiful supply this winter. Will that keep them from my bird seeds? I doubt it.

Yesterday was a quiet, peaceful day–the best kind. Each day has its own special surprises and blessings. I’m grateful.
