When the Unimaginable Happens

The tragedy of the sudden and violent deaths in Las Vegas left me stunned. It is unimaginable that in the middle of a music venue, someone unknown to those attending would suddenly open fire and kill and maim people who were strangers to him. Why?

The people who died and the people who are now in hospitals had no idea at the start of the evening that this would happen. Many would never return to their families and homes. Nobody who was there will ever forget it.

Stories of heroism are already being known–people saving others at the price of their own lives, people helping strangers. Doctors and nurses using their skills to aid the injured.

Life is precious and, no matter how many years we are here on this earth, they are all too brief. Let’s use our time to cherish each other. Let’s realize that we are not guaranteed of another year or another moment. Each person is unique and irreplaceable. Life, from conception to the grave, is a gift from God. Life is fragile and uncertain. We know this already but when tragedy strikes, we are reminded. My thoughts and my prayers are with the families and friends of the dead and with those whose lives were scarred by a senseless act of evil.
