There’s a Lot of Murk Out There

There’s a Lot of Murk Out There

The morning is too warm for November. The sky is gray, leaves are brown; wind is blowing them all around. If I were giving a weather forecast, I’d say it is cloudy with a lot of murk. It is a murky day.

So, what to do when such a day comes calling? Don’t succumb! Brighten it up in whatever way you choose. Dig out Christmas decorations from the closet, go visit a friend, do something nice for somebody else, write a mystery, read a mystery.

The world is awash with books and there’s no reason to let a gray day get anybody down as long as we can lose ourselves within the pages of somebody’s imagination. I’ve read a lot of good cozy mysteries lately, so many that I can’t list them all. Here are just a few. I’ve discovered another favorite author: Ann Gabhart. Ann writes in many different genres but I really like her cozy mystery series, The Hidden Springs Mysteries. I just wish there were more of them!

Another favorite writer is Sharon Mierke. She, too, writes a cozy mystery series and historical fiction. I have read all the Mabel Wickles books and am waiting for the next one.

If you haven’t read Under an English Heaven by Alice K. Boatwright, you’ve missed a treat. This is an engrossing tale, told in an engaging manner.

These are only a few of the authors who stand out in my mind. There are many more. And, if you want to look through a whole slew of them and choose a few books as Christmas gifts, may I recommend Southern Writers Gift Catalog. You’ll find many, many enticing books in an attractive, festive format.

So, even if the day is murky, keep it outside where it belongs. Inside, let brightness and joy and satisfaction reign supreme. Enter the wonderful world of books!
