Summertime

This post was from a few years back. I thought you might enjoy pictures of the flowers. The trumpet vine isn’t quite as lush as it was then and my hollyhocks have left me. We had a nice rain yesterday–in fact, it was raining as I left church but we didn’t mind. I heard comments about how nice it was. My family was here for lunch and the day began and ended beautifully.

Sometimes inhibitions are good. For instance, this morning I feel like going into the yard and singing, “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!” loudly and enthusiastically. However, I won’t. That would be disturbing the peace to say nothing of causing people to wonder about my mental state.

Inwardly, though, I’m singing because this is summertime. The sky is an unbelievable blue. Trees are leafed in lovely, fresh green. Flowers are blooming and bees are humming.

At night, little tree frogs sing at the top of their lungs. No inhibitions there! I wonder if they are descendants of the tadpoles I brought home from my friend Norma’s pond a few years ago.

Yesterday, inspired by a sudden burst of energy, I grabbed my rake and trekked into the back yard. Raking and sacking, I soon (well, not so soon) had four big bags of twigs and dead leaves. Now that area is smooth enough for a croquet ground.

I love being able to get outside and work in my yard. Each day I’m thankful that I can walk. I’m even more thankful since breaking my leg about four years ago. Now I appreciate getting around under my own steam.

Wherever you are, I hope you are having a wonderful morning and a beautiful day!
