Furry Friends and Thoughts of Fall

Furry Friends and Thoughts of Fall

The furry friend I’m talking about is Nemo. An ongoing mystery: why does he sit beside me when I’m at the computer, looking up at me hopefully, breathing his hot, aromatic breath on me, and staring at the black back-up box on the floor. He doesn’t want me sitting here. He dislikes this computer and I don’t know why.

This morning, if you’d like to check out some really loopy poetry but pretty fall pictures, this is the place to click: http://www.blanchedaymanos.com/a-loopy-little-fall-poetry/. It’s my post from last year. I must have been feeling whacky.

There’s a chill in the house which begs for the fireplace to be lit. So, it’s blazing away. Sure feels good because the temperature has plummeted to the forties this morning! Autumn is truly making inroads.

Coffee is especially good on chilly mornings. Maybe that’s why Nemo is sitting beside me, staring at me. He wants a cup of Folgers. Could it be?

A few days back, I posted a quote on my Facebook page. No, it isn’t my quote, but it’s from J. Forney: “Look not back in bitterness, nor forward in fear, but stand in the wonder of the moment.” Isn’t that good advice? Looking back and dwelling too much on past mistakes or heartaches can certainly rob today of its joys. The future sometimes looks mighty uncertain and fearful. But worrying about it won’t change it and is another thief of the time we have today. Let’s repent of the errors we’re aware of, prepare for the future as best we can, then enjoy each moment of each day because it’ll never come again. And love your family.

My fireplace warms the house and Nemo and me but friendships warm the heart. Today is that special day that comes twice a month when some of my best friends will gather at my hundred year old table to discuss books, writing, art, and our own particular dreams and wishes. Maybe a new neighbor will join the group. I hope so.

Another post on my Facebook page–again, it isn’t original with me, but I certainly believe it--a writer’s inspiration comes from two words, “what if”. With those two words, the whole world opens. There are no limits of time and space, of place or finances or anything else. The imagination soars and lights upon my page and a story is born. I love those two words, “What if…?”

My thoughts have been scattered with no particular subject in mind this morning. I’m sharing with you what I’m feeling. And, yes, my dear little sidekick is still sitting staring at me. He made a brief circle to the family room, then back he came. I think he is protecting me from that unknown enemy who lives somewhere in the depths of this computer. And, he won’t be happy until I leave it. The ongoing mystery of Nemo’s thoughts. And, whatever mystery you encounter today, may it be a warm, cozy one.
