Frosted Rooftops and Flying Time

Frosted Rooftops and Flying Time

The roofs of my neighbors are all the same color this morning–frosty white. But that’s okay. This is March and we don’t really expect this month to be comfortable with only one type of weather. Spring hasn’t sprung yet.

A funny thing the other day–a friend called, one I hadn’t heard from in a long time. It was great to hear her voice and we chatted a while. She wanted to share with me a surprise she had gotten at her church. Her pastor handed her a Sunday school leaflet, the kind that has three or four stories, a Bible quiz, and Scripture in it. Well, one of those stories, When Time Flies, was written by me! It must have been a long time ago because I had forgotten all about it, but there was my byline. And, the particularly nice thing about it was my story was one of the two the pastor recommended my friend read.

It’s always nice to have a happy surprise, isn’t it? I must have written it years ago and this was a publication that keeps articles and stories until they need to print them, so who knows when I wrote it?

This morning, as March nears its midway point, I’m reminded again that yes, time does seem to fly. Children grow up, adults grow older, things that were once important aren’t so much, any more. And, things that I didn’t used to think about are suddenly very important.

As time flies along, rooftops white with frost one morning, dripping with rain the next, loaded with snow, or bouncing back the rays of a summer sun, we reflect the passing seasons too. We become more patient with some things, more impatient with others, more understanding of situations that once seemed foreign, and our sights are set on different goals than when we were younger.

Wherever you are, in whatever season of life, I hope your day is a happy one and if you do encounter any mysteries, may they all be cozy ones accompanied by several cups of good, hot coffee.
