Do You Know Who You Are?

Do You Know Who You Are?

Who is coming today? Why, the Cozy Critters! The coffee pot will be on, the hundred-year old table will be waiting. I look forward to hearing what Jane, Peg, Carolyn, and Nancy have been reading or writing or painting. They will definitely liven up this old house of mine.

As I looked at past blog posts, I noticed last year I wrote one based on the importance of the everyday, hard-working, patriotic citizen. Sometimes we are overlooked like the tiny Whos on the clover bloom in Dr. Seuss’ beloved book. I thought part of it was worth repeating. Don’t let anyone every tell you that you’re unimportant. Your have infinite worth and value. So, hold your head up, put on a determined grin and move forward with life. Whether you are on the west or east coast or the great middle of America, or in another country, you matter!

Don’t fall for that line that we are just “fly over citizens”, the ones way down below the plane, in the middle of the country, as it flies from the east to the west coast, we are just the area of the country in the middle of this great land, best viewed from the air, largely unnoticed and unimportant until an election year. Sometimes, our voices seem to be as inaudible as the Whos down in Whoville, from the unforgettable children’s story, Horton Hears a Who, by Dr. Seuss.

We are the ones who hold this Nation together. We are the ones who get up in the morning, go to jobs (if we’re lucky) to support our families, believe in God, salute our Flag, and, if need be, take up arms to defend our liberty.   Our thoughts center around budgets, what our children are being taught in school, the families affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, getting together for Sunday dinner. We come home at the end of the day, tired but thankful–thankful for our freedom, a home, and those who love us.

So, on this beautiful Wednesday, look around, take stock of your many blessings, and remember that you are important. You, the individual, who likes to read, write, draw, invent; you, who are willing to share what you have, whether it is a lot or not so much. Your dreams and goals, your likes and dislikes, they all make up you and there’s only one you in the whole world. Several of those important people will sit around my table today and we’ll discuss books, art, concerns and triumphs. If anyone we know is having a problem, we may pray for him or her. In short, we’ll encourage each other and if anyone needs a reminder of her importance, we’ll remind her. In short, I’m looking forward to a great day!
