What Was It With Dink Renfro, Anyway?

Dink Renfro was not superstitious; no, indeed. He just didn’t believe in tempting fate. He had a healthy respect for the stories he had heard about the old cemetery by that deserted church. And, too, there was the uneasy sort of feeling he got when he was mowing the grass out there. He reckoned he could deal with it in daylight hours, but after dark? No way was he going near it.

And, then, there was Pat Harris and her son Jasper. Pat was a talker. About the only way Darcy Campbell could get a word in edgewise was to interrupt her, but Pat meant well. So did Jasper, but he was a loner. He felt more at home in the woods talking to the animals than he felt around people. Why, once he even had a pet owl. But, Jasper kept an eye on Darcy and Flora, making sure nobody harmed them.

Quirky characters! I like them. I think they give a story spice plus lending a bit of reality. Don’t we all have people in our lives who are a bit unusual? They lend interest to life, don’t they?  Come to think of it, there are a few people who would agree that I’m maybe just a tad different, but they put up with me, maybe because they love me? Or, they feel they must?

It’s fun to create people to move through the pages of fiction. I like the ones who are somewhat strange, maybe wacky, weird, or unconventional, but who mean well, most of the time. You’ll find Dink and Pat and Jasper and a bunch more people living in Ednalee, Oklahoma, or if not there, in Levi. I hope you get to know them and like them too.
