In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening

In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening

Ah! To be cool! And comfortable! What a glorious feeling. Last evening, the house was cool once more. The air conditioner is fixed. Only a wire had jarred loose from the unit and that was easily replaced. I’m rejoicing this morning. It’s like the old saying, You don’t miss the water till the well runs dry. Being without an air conditioner certainly causes one to appreciate this summertime convenience (near necessity).

A few years back, nobody had an air conditioner. We had fans. We didn’t miss air conditioning because we had never had it. And, people worked during the summer, got hot, sweated, drank lots of water, and made it through. People who work out of doors still do the same thing–farmers putting up hay, the technician who fixed my air conditioner, men who work on the roads.

Thinking of a lack of modern conveniences turned my thoughts to my grandparents on their farm at Etta. I’ve been mulling over the possibility of re-writing the two Etta books about my mother’s childhood and combining them into one history book and putting it on Amazon. What do you think? Only thing is, those Kindle books have to be formatted in a certain way and I’m not sure I can do that properly.

Speaking of books, the word from my publisher is that By the Fright of the Silvery Moon should be released in a little more than a week. If you want to feel shivers up and down your spine, try reading Fright’s predecessor, Moonlight Can Be Murder. There’s snow and Christmas and cool stuff.  There’s only 160 more days till Christmas.

So, summer drifts right along with July more than half gone and the start of another school year just around the corner. Time flies and we need to treasure each day.

Answer to today’s Mini Mystery: The Heritage of Etta Bend and Remembering Etta Bend.

  1. Glad you were able to cool down. I agree we really don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone. I thank God for all He has given us. I think your idea of combining the two Etta books is a wonderful one. I think you can figure out that format. Go for it.

  2. We don’t have a/c at our place but we have so many large trees now that the house seems cool most of the time. Yes, get that book put on amazon. I think you could probably figure out how to format it. My husband does it but I think they explain the steps quite well. Keep cool!

I would definitely like to see the two books combined. I would even be willing to help if you need me to do anything.
