Come On In, It’s A Brand New Day and Coffee Time

What fun to sit down for a chat and a cup of coffee with friends. What a good way to start the day! We could talk about anything that pops into our minds, forget about what is behind us and look forward to the day ahead. What are your thoughts this morning and what are your plans for the weekend?

As I listen to the water fountain outside my door and the rumble of the train downtown, I’m thankful for the peace and the coolness. The coolness won’t last long. I hope the peace lasts all day.

As usual, books are on my mind, in particular, By the Fright of the Silvery Moon. I’ve always had books in my life and pray that I always will. The thought just came to me–books are a great equalizer. We have different life experiences. Some of us have a lot of this world’s goods; some of us have very little but we have the love of books, particularly cozy mysteries in common. That is a bond.

Many things in life are just trappings…outer wrappings covering the real thing, the authentic us, that is inside. We have a lot more in common than we think. Often, that commonality is books and the love of reading.

If I instilled one thing in the little kindergarteners who came and went through my classroom many years ago, I hope it was a love of reading and books. A few of them were already trying their hands at being writers and all of them had lively imaginations! I still smile when I remember one little fellow in particular who enjoyed spinning tales. His eyes showed his enthusiasm. The wilder the story, the wider his eyes as he looked at me.

Answer to today’s Mini-Mystery: The old song, By the Light of the Silvery Moon, inspired the title to the newest Ned McNeil mystery, By the Fright of the Silvery Moon.
