The Amazing Mystery of Change

The Amazing Mystery of Change

Sometimes change happens suddenly. Sometimes, it’s gradual, but whichever it is, it is a mystery. When I went to bed last night, the maple tree in front of my window was basically green. This morning, orange leaves adorn the tree–not altogether but a good sight more than were there last night.  More and more of nature’s bright carpet lie under the tree. The seasons are changing!

Yesterday, Matt brought over some pictures for me to look at. He and Dawn are cleaning out their garage and he came across a box of old Polaroid shots made in 1984. Was I ever that young? But, there we were, teenage Matt, Mom and Dad, my sister Helen and sister-in-law Carlene–we were all laughing and having fun.

My nephew Vince (when he was a kindergartener, we had an adventure exploring an old house which I’ll tell you about some time), my brothers Richard and Tracy, sister-in-law Linda, nephew Vic and his family. As I looked at those pictures, I thought of the years gone by. Those days will never be re-lived. Things have changed.

And there was Matt’s little D. C., atop the dryer at Manos Meadows. She was such a quiet, dignified cat.  She thought her catly thoughts but she could communicate with me with only a silent meow and a stare. I instinctively knew if she was hungry or wanted in or just what she needed. She now rests at Manos Meadows under the old oak burying tree on the east side of the yard.

Since no day or hour is ever repeated, I need to cherish each one, grab hold of it, enjoy it, live in the moment. And, here I am, looking back. It happens, doesn’t it? Maybe we look back to realize the importance of the present.

Speaking of change in a lighter tone–yesterday this was just a gourd. Well, I scooped out the seeds, sponged on an off-white acrylic, and let it dry. Today, I plan to adorn it with water color leaves. If it turns out well, I’ll post a picture tomorrow.

Since today won’t come again, let’s enjoy it. Happy October 20 and may all your changes be happy and the mysteries you encounter be cozy ones!
